Parliamentary  Under  Secretary  of  State,  Minister  for  Business  and  Industry.

Richard  Harrington  was  appointed  Parliamentary  Under  Secretary  of  State  at  the  Department  for  Business,  Energy  and  Industrial  Strategy  on  14  June  2017. He  was  elected  as  Conservative  MP  for  Watford  in  May 2010. 

Richard’s  ministerial  responsibilities  include  industrial  strategy  delivery,  sector  deals,  aerospace, defence,  advanced  manufacturing  and  supply  chains. 

Richard  attended  Leeds  Grammar  school  and  was  awarded  a  scholarship  to  Oxford  University,  studying  law  at  Keble  College. 

His  business  career  started  with  the  John  Lewis  Partnership  and  he  eventually  ran  a  business,  which  at  its  peak  had  2,000  employees  in  7  countries. 



Adam has been responsible for all aspects of the Salesforce Platform across EMEA since 2012. He spends time helping customers understand the power of the full Salesforce portfolio and connecting the product organisations with the needs of European customers.

Spearing's move to in 2012 follows a 25 year career in the technology industry. Spearing started his career selling applications to laboratories; was involved in the formation of the Hewlett-Packard software business; ran parts of the IBM software business and ran Sun Microsystem's Java business. Before Salesforce was involved in a series of start-ups. 

Spearing holds a Hons. Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.



Mark is a Leader in Accenture’s Industry X.0 practice which is part of Accenture Digital. He is responsible for Innovation and Industrial IoT for all clients in the UK & Ireland. Mark has been helping customers transform to becoming a Digital business for the past 10 years and has a background in working with industrial customers in asset intensive industries such as Aerospace and Defence, Transportation, Utilities and Telecoms.

Mark has recently led a project with Thales using Blockchain. This created an innovative Proof of Value illustrates the use of Blockchain and IoT technologies within the supply chain of the Aerospace & Defence industry. Mark will explain further how Blockchain has the potential to disrupt and transform Aerospace & Defence and will explain how business value can be generated from such initiatives too.



Dr.  Wangermann  leads  DXC  Technology’s  IoT  Global  Compound  Offering,  integrating  DXC’s  capabilities  across  its  9  offering  areas  and  its  ioT  partner  network  to  develop  complete  operations  solutions  for  clients.    He  is  focused  on  technology-driven  business  transformation,  and  has  worked  especially  with  clients  in  the  aerospace,  defense,  and  aviation  industry.    Prior  to  joining  DXC  Technology,  Dr.  Wangermann  was  a  strategy  and  operations  consultant  with  AlixPartners,  Oliver  Wyman,  and  Booz  Allen  Hamilton.  He  started  his  career  as  an  aerospace  engineer  with  the  Dowty  Group.    His  Ph.D.  from  Princeton  University  is  in  Mechanical  &  Aerospace  Engineering,  and  his  thesis  was  on  Advanced  Aircraft  Airspace  Systems. 



Peter  Maloney  is  co-founder  and  Chief  Strategy  Officer  at  Inaventure,  the  digital  services  company.  He  has  worked  with  data,  analytics  and  digital  for  over  15  years  and  specialises  in  helping  companies  turn  data  into  the  decisions  that  lead  to  increased  sales  and  increased  margins. 

Peter  is  an  active  member  of  both  the  Through  Live  Services  and  Digital  Manufacturing  SIG  within  ADS,  helping  develop  an  industry  perspective  on  how  digital  capability  impacts  companies  supply  chains  and  business  models.  This  presentation  brings  together  his  experiences  and  knowledge  in  an  innovative  framework  for  managing  complex  supply  chains.



Robert Sharman is responsible for GKN Aerospace’s global research and development ,future strategy and direction for Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies across airframe and aeroengines, including co-leading GKN’s AM cross divisional R&D activities.  Rob has worked in the aerospace industry for more than 15 years and is a materials scientist and engineer by training and did a P.h.D. in additive manufacturing of titanium with Rolls Royce plc



Sameer’s role as Head of Innovation and Engineering cuts across ADS’s sectors of aerospace, defence, space and security, and includes informing policy and industrial strategies, adding value to various industry groups, and engaging ADS’s 1000+ members on national and international matters of interest in the Innovation and Engineering domains.

Sameer graduated with a first class Master’s degree in Physics from UCL in 2002. Following five years of stealth technology research within the UK MOD, he moved to the Aerospace and Defence Knowledge Transfer Network to develop the first National Aerospace Technology Strategy – R&D roadmaps that today represent some £4bn joint industry-Government investment in technology. In August 2010, Sameer joined ADS – the UK’s trade organisation advancing the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries – and has since substantially grown his portfolio, to include developing thinking around Aerospace 4.0 – the sector’s response to the emerging ‘fourth industrial revolution’, preparing the industry for Urban Air Transport markets, and the growing role of, and business opportunities in, the Space sector.



With over 30 years of consulting experience with clients engaged in various sectors of the aerospace and defense (A&D) industry, David Williams helps clients address pressing challenges in order to facilitate their growth and resiliency. He is also an experienced expert witness, having testified in venues as an expert in damages, forensic accounting, bankruptcy, and various A&D topics. David focuses on helping A&D clients with competitive strategy, mergers, acquisitions and other transactions, and financial regulatory compliance. His assignments have included strategic planning, analysis of new business development and pricing processes and systems, manufacturing and service delivery improvement including cost management control and reduction initiatives, M&A strategy, diligence and execution,  and financial accounting and reporting review and analysis. His experience includes work in both commercial and military markets for domestic and international clients. 



Christian is a manufacturing-sector partnerships lead at Digital Catapult. In this role he works with companies and organisations across sub-sectors on how they can best leverage Immersive, IoT and AI technologies to drive value in their industries. The ambition is to accelerate the number of trailblazer companies working with advanced digital technologies in UK manufacturing, both at a corporate and startup/scaleup level.

Christian has a background as a technology architect with particular experience in the aerospace and defence space, but with cross-sector experience in automotive, energy and construction. Prior to this consulting work, he was a research engineer focusing on materials for nuclear power stations. He is a founding member of the Tech London Advocates Digital Manufacturing working group and a member of the corporate innovation group.





As Director of Advanced Analytics, Dawen Nozdryn-Plotnicki is responsible for leading the Analytics team in collaborating with Boeing’s airline, airport, and defense customers to enhance their operations and maintenance through applied analytics, and creating data-driven solutions.

Dawen has played an instrumental role in evangelizing the power of data science to improve operations for Boeing’s global clients. Her consultative approach combined with business acumen and technical prowess has provided a laser focus on embedding advanced analytics methods into Boeing’s digital solutions. Today, Dawen leads a team of data science and analytics professionals bridging the gap between technical and business groups to find solutions to some of the most challenging problems facing carriers today.



Tomas Grönstedt is full professor in turbomachinery, and research group leader in Turbomachinery & Aeroacoustics at Chalmers University of Technology Sweden. Tomas is currently a recipient of the CISB Swedish Professors Chair of Aeronautics in Honor of Peter Wallenberg Sr at Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) Brazil.

He is also a member of the 2017 Independent ICAO/CAEP expert panel for review of technology goals for engines and aircraft and co-author of the Swedish National Research Agenda Flight. His research interests are conceptual- and aerodynamic design of new aero engine concepts and he is currently coordinating the Horizon 2020 project ULTIMATE.



Richard joined Rolls-Royce in 1990 and was sponsored to complete an Engineering degree at Cambridge University. Richard worked in several engineering positions on the Tay and Trent, before spending several years in Aircraft Performance.

After taking this technical experience into Product Marketing, he was seconded to Seattle, managing Rolls-Royce’s Sales & Marketing activities with Boeing. Returning to Derby in 2005, Richard became Head of Marketing for Boeing programmes.

After a senior role within Rolls-Royce’s Civil Future Programmes team, Richard obtained his MBA in 2010 before running Rolls-Royce’s Market Assessment team. In 2016 he assumed responsibility for the entire Civil Aerospace Marketing team.





Balaji Srimoolanathan is Strategy Manager for the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI). He delivers strategic insights that influence the direction of the ATI, inform the aerospace technology strategy and UK stakeholders. He is the author of the ATI’s market outlook, used to guide the ATI’s technology strategy and its portfolio.

Balaji has led the development of the Institute’s Through-life Engineering Services (TES) strategy and also supports several ATI strategic initiatives. He joined the ATI in March 2015. Balaji is a qualified aircraft engineer and is a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Prior to the ATI, Balaji worked in strategic consulting, advising global aerospace, defence, security and public-sector organisations.



Mark Thomas has been Chief Executive Officer of Reaction Engines Limited since May 2015. In this role he is leading development of the SABRE engine concept, a new class of aerospace propulsion system for hypersonic and space access applications, and building a sustainable technology business.

Mark has grown the Company from 65 to over 170 employees, secured significant investments from Strategic, Financial and Government Investors and expanded operations in the UK and US.

He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.



David Stewart has accumulated 35 years of aviation and consulting experience, covering multiple aspects of the airline, aerospace and maintenance supply businesses. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman in 2017 as a partner, he led the Aerospace and MRO practice at ICF. In his current role he also leads the establishment in Europe of CAVOK, Oliver Wyman’s airline technical consulting business.





Anthony  has  over  30  years’  commercial  aviation  experience  including  10  years  as  a 747 pilot  for  Qantas,  owning  and  operating  a  successful  flying  school  and  as  a  commercial  seaplane  pilot.  He  now  acts  as  a  consultant,  trainer  and  advisor  to  organisations  wanting  to  improve  their  safety  and  risk  management.  Clients  include  the  UK  CAA,  RAF  and  Air  Accident  Investigation  Branch.   

Joji  is  an  aviation  safety  professional  with  over  20  years’  experience  in  safety  risk  management  with  the  UK  Civil  Aviation  Authority.  He  has  a  thorough  understanding  of  performance-based  regulation  and  its  application,  safety  management  systems  and  just  culture  principles,  both  in  the  UK  and  the  international  context.  



Ricardo Mendes started his career as co-founder of TEKEVER, immediately after completing his studies at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. Since then Ricardo has overseen the establishment of the company as a successful leader within the field of Information Technology. From the first day, the strategy  of the company has been based on the creation of innovative technology and its application in differing and varied markets. In recent years TEKEVER have invested in the development of new business areas, including Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space.  This has led to the creation of several new product lines and the spin-off of several business units. A good example of this is the Unmanned Systems business and the success achieved within the maritime surveillance domain.



Trevor is the Future Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technical Lead for Thales and the Digital Transformation Champion for the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Business.

He is responsible for next generation Science, Technology, Research and Development programmes aimed at bringing future ISR capabilities to the military and civil markets. Over his 30 year career, Trevor has held a range of senior software and systems engineering roles across a number of market sectors. He is a Chartered Engineer and an Applied Physics graduate from Brunel University.




Christian  Ramsey  is  President  at  uAvionix.  Formerly,  he  was  a  Deputy  Program  Manager  for  Harris  Corporation  on  the  FAA’s  Surveillance  and  Broadcast  Services  (i.e.  ADS-B)  program  and  Program  Manager  for  UAS  R&D  programs.  He  has  spent  his  entire  career  in  aviation  technologies  ranging  from  aircraft  and  flight  simulation,  aircraft  surveillance  systems,  cloud-based  services,  and  avionics.    He  is  a  private  pilot  and  licensed  UAS  pilot  under  FAA  Part  107.



Andrew Cowdery is Director of Government Affairs at Leonardo MW Limited. Andrew has over 30 years of management experience in Aerospace, Defence and Space, having held senior positions with GEC, Marconi, Ferranti, Astrium, BAE Systems, and most recently Leonardo.

Andrew has extensive experience in collaborative and high value capital projects in Europe, Middle East and Far East, working with Governments and local industrial partners.

Andrew is Chairman of Euroradar and EuroDASS Boards of Management, these European consortiums design, build and support the Captor Radar and Praetorian Def Aids Suite.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.



Chris Metts is focused on and responsible for the growth of Deloitte’s work within the aviation ecosystem, including global air traffic operations, with an emphasis on how rapid advances in technology, such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud and smart mobility (the Future of Mobility and Elevated Mobility), will drive improvements in safety, efficiency and customer service. His career has included 34+ years of progressively responsible leadership both in government and industry, resulting in incredible success throughout the FAA and the global aviation community. This includes time as a transportation Attaché at US Embassies overseas. He served as the FAA’s Chief Acquisitions Officer, the VP for their PMO and as the VP of US Air Traffic Operations. In industry, he served as a corporate VP.




Elizabeth  served  18  years  in  healthcare  rising  to  Sister,  Intensive  Care.  Qualified  as  an  industrial  Interior  Designer  and  ran  her  own  practice  for  12  years.  Co-founded  Evidence  Talks  Ltd  in  2002  as  Commercial  director,  becoming  CEO  in  2014  and  Chairman  in  November  2017.  In  January  2018,  Elizabeth  became  Vice  President  of  the  Security  Sector  at  the  Aerospace,  Defence  and  Security  industry  body,  ADS,  serving  in  this  capacity  as  Chair  of  the  Security  Sector  Board. 

Represents  SME’s  on  the  Government  Security  Resilience  Growth  Partnership  board  chaired  jointly  by  the  Chairman  of  RISC  and  the  Minister  of  State  for  Security.  In  2017,  Elizabeth  received  two  Women  Leaders  awards  in  Milton  Keynes  and  the  CBI  National  First  Woman  of  Science  and  Technology  award.  



In Rolls-Royce, Neil is responsible globally for IT Security and Information Security. He joined Rolls-Royce in 2015 from CERT-UK, the national Computer Emergency Response Team in the UK, where he was Deputy Director Operations. In his role at CERT-UK Neil was responsible for Cyber Incident Handling across the UK Critical National Infrastructure as well as being responsible for Situational Awareness and being the sponsor for the UK’s flagship Cyber security Information Sharing Partnership (CiSP) – a Government Industry collaboration to share cyber threat intelligence. Prior to CERT-UK Neil worked for QinetiQ where he ran their Security Operations Centre and was the Operations Director for their security division. In his early career Neil was a defence operational analyst before moving into business management and running change programs.



An internationally recognized technology leader and driver of innovation and transformation within global organisations, Simon brings a powerful blend of skills and proven capabilities to enable companies to drive forward with vision and deliver on the requirements of key stakeholders. As Vice President, Head of the Global Innovation Network within Airbus, Simon helped build a strong cohesive brand for Research & Technology strategy and development. Airbus was named in the Thomson Reuters 50 Global Innovative Companies list and ranked #30 in the world for Research & Development with a spend of 3.1Bn€. His portfolio within Airbus for research has covered a wide range of subjects from System & Software Engineering, Virtual Reality & Simulation, Applied Mathematics, Information Technology & HPC, Big Data & Visual Analytics, and Maintenance & Services through to Cyber & Homeland Security. In 2015 Simon took on his newest role as Vice President, Product & Cyber Security Program Directorate – helping to protect Airbus products, facilities, ICT equipment and people.




Dr  Chana  is  Deputy  Director  of  the  Institute  for  Security  Science  and  Technology  (ISST),  Imperial  College  London.  He  divides  his  time  between  the  College  and  developing  security  technologies  with  SMEs  and  other  large  companies.  He  co-led  the  founding  of  the  HMG  funded  Research  Institute  on  Trustworthy  Industrial  Control  Systems  at  Imperial  and  has  a  diverse  portfolio  of  technology  innovation  experience  within  government,  business  and  academia.  Deeph  previously  led  security  technology  activities  across  several  UK  government  departments;  delivering  critical  policy  advice  to  four  Secretaries  of  State  and  serving  as  chairman  on  key  national  and  international  security  technology  policy  working  groups  and  committees.



Robin Talwar - Principal Consultant, New Product Introduction and Lifecycle Management Twenty years’  international work experience in New Product Introduction and Continuous Improvement working with OEM and Tier 1 supply chain - 3 of these years spent in training and consulting with SMMT Industry Forum. Subject matter expert with experience of the creation and delivery of training materials in Aerospace Sector including New Product Introduction (NPI) technical assessment,  NPI process development, Measures to sustain NPI performance, Project management principles, Change management in NPI, Risk Management and Lessons learned. Co-ordinator of delivery team and lead author of NPI improvementraining materials delivered for Sharing in Growth programme in Aerospace sector.

Richard  Hammond  -  Principal  Consultant  Aerospace.  Twenty-eight  years’  experience  in  auditing,  training  and  consultancy  in  the aerospace/automotive  sectors  –  14  of  which  have  been  spent  with  SMMT  Industry  Forum.  Subject  matter  expert  with  experience  of  the  creation    and  delivery  of  training  materials  to  OEMs  and  Tier  1  in  the  Aerospace  Sector  including  Advance  Product  Quality Planning/Production  Part  Approval  Process  (AS  9145),  Failure  Modes  and  Effects  Analysis  (AS  13004),  Measurement  System  Analysis  (AS  13003)  and  Statistical  Process  Control  (AS  13006).    Co-ordinator  of  a  Global  Delivery  team  and  lead  author  of  training  materials  produced  in  support  of  the  Rolls-Royce  Global  PPAP  initiative. 




Brendon  Hill  has  been  in  aviation  and  engineering  for  40  years,  including  26  years  as  a  British  Army  Officer  &  Aircraft  Engineer  and  serving  in  many  theatres  of  operation  as  well  as  in  Quality  Management  roles.  He  has  been  in  business  assurance  and  certification  for  10  years,  4  with  BSI  where  he  has  developed  BSI’s  services  to  aerospace.  He  has  also  worked  in  industry  as  a  Group  Quality  Manager  looking  after  three  factories;  two  CNC  manufacturing  which  supplied  aerospace  as  well  as  other  sectors  such  as  oil  and  gas,  and  one  producing  manufacturing  software. 



Neal  has  spent  over  25  years  in  the  CPG  industry  working  for  both  Blue  Chip  and  SME  companies  (brand  and  private  label)  to  significantly  develop  and  improve  their  business  and  market  performance.  In  recent  years,  he’s  spent  five  years  working  for  IRI  (one  of  the  world’s  leading  data  insights  companies)  and  more  recently  has  spent  a  similar  time  supporting  global  organisations  to  evaluate,  track  and  benchmark  their  vital  stakeholder  relationships  with  their  Employees,  Customers,  and  Suppliers.  Such  knowledge  and  understanding  typically  help  to  improve  the  commercial  performance  of,  and  across  an  organisation.  



Russell  is  leading  the  development  of  Thales’  Digital  Trust  business,  positioning  Thales  as  the  leader  in  providing  innovative  trusted  security  solutions  that  enable  organisations  to  exploit  the  benefits  of  digital  technology  especially:  Connectivity  and  IoT,  Big  Data,  Autonomy  and  AI.  Russell  was  the  Technology  Director  at  Atkins  where  he  previously  led  Atkins  Security  and  Intelligence  business  and  also  set  up  and  successfully  grew  Atkins  Security  consultancy.    Russell  is  a  mechanical  engineer  and  with  over  30  years’  experience  in  senior  executive,  project  management,  and  consultancy  roles.  He  is  a  Cranfield  Fellow  and  sits  on  the  University’s  UK  Manufacturing  Council. 




Thane Hall, Digital Trust Account Manager, Secure Communications and Information Systems (SIX) Division, Thales UK 

Thane develops Thales UKs Digital Trust business opportunities which includes a focus on the application and security of blockchains. Thane led engagement with Accenture to develop a secure supply chain proof of concept and engages with customers to develop this further through pilots.Thane also develops business around our other offers which include; Warrantied Identity, PKI as a Service, Secure by Design and Cyber Operations Centre services. Thane is a systems engineer and with 10 years’ service in the Royal Navy Submarine Service and 18years experience in industry. In his spare time he runs the Bristol Blockchain Meetup group



Dimitrios  is  a  leading  Security  Principal  at  DXC  Technology.  Over  the  last  twenty  five  years  he  has  been  developing  security  software,  designing  enterprise  security  architectures,  performing  security  R&D,  advising  on  security  strategy  and  conducting  technical  security  and  compliance  assessments  in  Europe,  Middle  East  and  Africa.  



Subject  matter  expert  with  Deloitte  Cyber  Risk  Services,  leading  efforts  utilizing  advanced  large  scale  data  analysis  capabilities  to  solve  complex  cyber  problems.  Rob  leads  active  cooperative  research  and  development  engagements  with  members  of  the  Intelligence  Community  and  has  30  years’experience  as  a  technology  executive  in  both  the  private  sector  and  U.S.  government  developing  and  delivering  innovative  solutions  to  difficult  challenges.  Rob  works  directly  with  senior  organizational,  operational,  and  technical  leadership  at  organizations  such  as  the  U.S.  Department  of  Defense,  intelligence  agencies,  military  services,  Department  of  Homeland  Security,  and  commercial  industries.  Active  in  computer  and  network  security  communities  since  the  early  1980's,  his  areas  of  expertise  include  cyber  security,  behavior  and  transport  of  data  in  interconnected  environments,  and  complex  systems  of  systems.
