Dan Elwell returned to the FAA during the summer of 2017, after originally serving as FAA assistant administrator for aviation policy, planning, and environment from 2006 to 2008. Before re-joining the agency, Mr. Elwell previously had been president and managing partner of his own consulting firm, Elwell & Associates, and was involved with the Trump administration on issues such as the independent air traffic control organization proposal. An Air Force Academy graduate, he has also worked at Airlines for America (A4A), American Airlines and the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). With his wealth of industry background Mr. Elwell is in a unique position to know what is coming around the corner in terms of integrating drones into the commercial aviation sphere; high altitude flight; new air traffic control alternatives and other topics that will impact the industry now and for decades to come.
