AGF Unpack: Towards a Digital replica of Planet Earth, how satellites and sensors are building a sustainable world
- 20th July 22
- 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM
- Space Theatre, Space Zone: Hall 4
The convergent use of Digital Technologies such as High Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides the necessary technology and infrastructure to implement vertical “Digital Twin” applications where satellite data are fused with observations from in situ sensors as well as other data streams (e.g. social media, IoT) to feed models and build simulation scenarios applied to manifold natural and anthropic systems.
The potential of this approach spans through heterogeneous applications: from climate change adaptation and resilient cities to smart agriculture and food security. The capacity to efficiently manage highly variable data streams as well as to master several “physics” (e.g. hydraulic modelling, crop yield, radio-frequency, energy balance, …) are the key elements to build complex scenarios and support decision making processes.
The talk will present real life use Cases in several vertical applications domains, showing how space is contributing to build a more sustainable, resilient and secure world.
