Local Residents Traffic Information

What to Expect During the Event

The Farnborough International Airshow is a major global event, attracting a significant number of visitors across a concentrated period.

To ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians, a comprehensive Traffic & Transport Management Plan has been developed in consultation with:

  • Hampshire County Council
  • Hampshire Police
  • Our appointed traffic management specialists

In line with our Traffic & Transport Management Plan Traffic, we will be implementing a number of traffic management measures to ensure we:

  • Safely manage increased traffic volumes
  • Protect residents, visitors, and pedestrians
  • Ensure emergency access is maintained at all times
  • Comply with aviation and public safety regulations

Despite putting in place measure that we can, please be aware that during peak times, you may still experience:

  • Increased traffic, especially mornings and late afternoon
  • Temporary delays on surrounding roads
  • Traffic marshals managing key junctions and crossings

👉 We recommend allowing extra time for journeys during this period.

Traffic measures will be introduced in phases:

  • 15th June onwards: Build-up traffic begins. You may notice a gradual increase in event-related traffic towards the designated build-up gates

  • From 13 July: Introduction of several closures (listed below)

  • 19 July: Implementation of several show-week traffic measures (listed below)

  • 20–24 July: Full traffic measures in place

Please note: Some restrictions remain in place until 30 July

Traffic measures are put in place during the Farnborough International Airshow to carefully manage the increased number of vehicles and people in the area, with the aim of keeping everyone as safe as possible while minimising disruption to local residents.

We understand that these changes may impact your usual journeys, and every effort has been made—working closely with local authorities and emergency services—to design a plan that supports smooth traffic flow, protects pedestrians, and keeps the surrounding community accessible.

A key priority throughout is ensuring that emergency vehicles can move quickly and safely at all times, so clear routes are maintained for urgent response if needed.

In the sections on the left of this page, we have listed out the specific traffic measures, including when and why they are in place.

Turning Restrictions (Gate I)

When is it in place: Monday 15 June – Thursday 30 July

What is in place: Traffic approaching from the A325 will not be permitted to turn right from the A323 into Gate I. A central barrier and corresponding signage will be installed to enforce this restriction.

Vehicles will instead be directed to Norris Hill Bridge Roundabout to approach Gate I from the west, allowing a left‑turn‑only entry. This restriction will not apply during flying display closures (see below).

To prevent inappropriate manoeuvres, U‑turns at Windy Gap will be physically restricted through the installation of a temporary traffic island at the Aldershot Road junction.#

Additional advisory signage will be provided for local businesses in the Gate I vicinity, including AAIB and RAIB, directing authorised traffic to follow the signed lorry routes and comply with the access arrangements.

Why is it in place: Gate I is used heavily by lorries delivering equipment and infrastructure. Routing vehicles via Norris Hill Bridge Roundabout provides a safer, more controlled approach that is better suited to HGV movements.

Speed Restrictions (Gate I)

When is it in place: Monday 15 June – Thursday 30 July

What is in place: The speed limit on A323 Fleet Road will be reduced to 40 mph in both directions between Norris Hill Bridge and Clubhouse Road.

Why is it in place: To improve road safety and support safe access to Gate I during periods of increased event, HGV and operational traffic, while providing additional protection for drivers and personnel working on or near the highway.

No Waiting / No Stopping Cones and Signage

When is it in place: Monday 15 June – Thursday 30 July

What is in place: Many of the principal roads surrounding the Aerodrome are subject to existing Clearway restrictions; however, these do not prevent parking on grass verges, roundabouts or other unsuitable areas. To strengthen enforcement capability and prevent congestion caused by illegal or inappropriate parking, selected Clearways will be temporarily suspended and replaced with enhanced No Waiting / No Stopping / No Parking restrictions.

  • Aldershot Road – both sides
From its junction with Fleet Road in a south‑westerly direction for a distance of 500 metres.

  • Clubhouse Road – both sides
From its junction with Fleet Road to its junction with the A325 Farnborough Road.

  • Elles Road – both sides
From its junction with Sulzers Roundabout westwards to its junction with Ively Road.

  • Fleet Road – both sides
From its junction with Ively Road south‑eastwards to its junction with the A325 Farnborough Road, Aldershot.

  • Ively Road – both sides
From its junction with Elles Road westwards to its junction with Kennels Lane.
From its junction with Elles Road northwards to its junction with Southwood Road (Southwood Roundabout).

  • Laffans Road – both sides
    For its entire length.
Active enforcement will be undertaken by HCC Civil Enforcement Team.

Why is it in place: To prevent congestion and unsafe conditions caused by illegal or inappropriate parking on key roads around the Aerodrome. The restrictions keep critical routes clear for HGVs, operational traffic and emergency access during periods of increased Airshow‑related activity.

Trenchard Way Closure

When is it in place: Monday 13 July – Sunday 26 July

What is in place: Trenchard Way will be closed to all road traffic for the duration of this period.
Traffic marshals positioned at each closure point to redirect vehicles. Pedestrian access will remain available via the footpath until Sunday 19 July, after which the route will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians.

Signed diversion routes will be installed and maintained by the AA in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan.

Why is it in place: To provide a safe and controlled route for shuttle bus operations and associated vehicle movements, while preventing local residents from being drawn into Gate A exhibitor and event traffic. The closure reduces conflict between event operations, residents and general traffic during peak Airshow activity.

Flying Display Closures

When is it in place: Monday 13 July – Friday 24 July between 12:30-17:00
These closures will be implemented only during periods when aerobatic displays are taking place. The closures are scheduled for Monday 13 July – Friday 24 July between 12:30-17:00 daily. Where the closure is not required, subject to confirmation from the flying display team, this will not be implemented.

What is in place: Sections of the public highway within the designated aerobatic flying display zone will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian movements during scheduled flying activity.

The affected roads are:

  • A323 Fleet Road – between Norris Hill Road and Laffans Road

  • Aldershot Road – between its junction with A323 Fleet Road and the eastern boundary of The Foresters Public House

Traffic management staff will redirect vehicles and signed diversion routes will direct traffic via:

Norris Hill Road / A323 Aldershot Road / B3013 Reading Road South / Bourley Road / Wellesley Road / A325 / Wellington Roundabout / Farnborough Road / Fleet Road.

During flying display closures, access to Gate I and Laffan Road’s businesses will be maintained; however, vehicles must approach from the A325 or via Clubhouse Road / Fleet Road only. Traffic approaching from the A325 will be permitted to turn right from the A323 into Gate I and Laffan’s Road during these periods, with barriers temporarily repositioned to allow this movement.

Why is it in place: To comply with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) safety requirements by ensuring that no vehicles or pedestrians are present within the aerobatic flying display safety zone during live flying activity

When is it in place: Monday 20 July to Friday 24 July 2026, between 06:00 hrs and midday,
with additional outbound arrangements on Friday 24 July 2026, as detailed below.

What is in place: A temporary one‑way system is implemented on Lynchford Road (A3011). During the morning inbound period, a westerly one‑way system is operated to support inbound traffic to the Airshow. This system is implemented by the AA, with eastbound traffic diverted via Alexandra Road, Reading Road and Park Road.

Traffic management will only be in place when the Lynchford Road one-way inbound system is in operation, and will be removed or covered at all other times

To support the flow of outbound traffic, it is anticipated that the one-way system will be removed daily by 12:00 hrs at the latest, or earlier at the discretion of the.

Friday 24 July 2026 (Pioneers of Tomorrow) – Additional Arrangements

PM (Outbound): From 15:00 hrs, the one‑way system will be reversed and an easterly one‑way system implemented on Lynchford Road to support outbound traffic flows at the close of the event.

Why is it in place: Lynchford Road forms part of the primary inbound route to the Airshow for traffic arriving from the M3 (north and north‑west) and from the A3 / A31 (southbound). Implementing a temporary one‑way system allows high volumes of inbound traffic to be managed efficiently along the A331 to Park Road Roundabout, through Lynchford Road and on to Queens Roundabout, reducing congestion at key junctions and protecting the wider highway network during peak Show Week arrivals. On Friday, the arrangement is reversed to support outbound movements, allowing traffic to disperse efficiently back towards the strategic road network at the end of the Show.

When is it in place: midday Sunday 19 July to 2200 Friday 24 July

What is in place: In addition to the Lynchford Road one‑way system, a series of temporary road closures and turning restrictions are implemented within the North Camp area during Show Week.

North Camp – Road Closures

The following road closures apply within the North Camp area during Show Week:

  • Netley Street closed at its junction with A325 Farnborough Road
  • Church Road West closed at its junction with A325 Farnborough Road
  • Queens Road closed at its junction with Peabody Road
  • Closeworth Road closed at its junction with Park Road
  • Lynchford Road closed at its junction with Park Road (northbound only)

Additional closures associated with the westbound Lynchford Road one‑way system (between 06:00 hrs – midday) include:

  • Netley Street at its junction with Winchester Street
  • Lynchford Road at its junction with Old Lynchford Road (western end, including new junctions)
  • Southampton Street at its junction with Old Lynchford Road
  • Osborne Road at its junction with Old Lynchford Road
  • Peabody Road at its junction with Lynchford Road

North Camp – Turning Bans and Restricted Movements

The following turning restrictions apply:

A325 Farnborough Road - All right‑hand turns prohibited between:

  • Boundary Road, and
  • Lynchford Road / Queens Roundabout

Park Road - No right‑hand turns from:

  • Salesian View
  • South Street
  • Whites Road

No left‑hand turns from:

  • Falkland Court
  • Lynchford Road

Alexandra Road / Queens Road / Netley Street:

  • No right‑hand turn from Alexandra Road into Netley Street
  • No right‑hand turn from Netley Street into Alexandra Road
  • No right‑hand turn from Alexandra Road into Queens Road
  • No right‑hand turn from Queens Road into Alexandra Road

Why this is in place: These measures are in place to maintain traffic flow on the A325 and Lynchford Road corridor, which forms a critical route for Airshow traffic, shuttle buses, and local movements during Show Week.

By removing conflicting turning movements and restricting access to minor side roads:

  • through‑traffic is prevented from rat‑running through residential streets;
  • congestion and queuing at key junctions are reduced;
  • shuttle bus reliability and journey times are protected; and
  • safer conditions are created for pedestrians and cyclists in the North Camp area.

When is it in place: midday Sunday 19 July to 2200 Friday 24 July

What is in place: The existing one way direction on Park Road will be temporarily reversed for the duration of the Show period.

To support this change, the existing ‘No Right Turn’ order covering the movement from Lynchford Road to Morris Road will be temporarily suspended during Show Week. This provides additional access flexibility for local residents while maintaining overall network efficiency.

To prevent conflicting movements and ensure the safe operation of the reversed flow, the following turning restrictions will apply for the same period:

  • No vehicles travelling along Lynchford Road (old section, eastern end) or Falkland Court may turn left into Park Road.
  • No vehicles travelling along Salesian View, South Street, or Whites Road may turn right into Park Road.
  • Advance warning notices will be placed on Park Road to notify parked vehicles of the temporary change, and a letter drop will be undertaken to inform affected residents in advance.

Why is it in place: To support the operation of the Lynchford Road one‑way system during Show Week and provide a suitable route for high volumes of diverted traffic. Reversing Park Road improves network capacity, reduces congestion at key junctions, and enables traffic to flow efficiently between the A331, Lynchford Road and Queens Roundabout, while minimising disruption to surrounding residential areas.

When is it in place: Sunday 19 July to Friday 25 July 2026, between 06:00 hrs and 19:00 hrs.

What is in place: Enhanced traffic management arrangements will operate at Government House Road junction during Show Week. The junction will be controlled by manned temporary traffic signals (TTS) operated by the AA, to prevent queuing back onto the A325 and Queens Hotel Roundabout

The following turning restrictions will apply:

  • No right‑turns from the MOD Property access lane onto Government House Road
  • No right‑turns from the new Link Road onto Government House Road

Government House Road will be temporarily reconfigured to ensure that only shuttle buses are permitted to turn right into Trenchard Way. All other vehicles will continue southbound, where they will:

  • turn right at the southern end of Government House Road
  • undergo security and vehicle label validation; and
  • be permitted to return northbound within a cordoned lane to access Trenchard Way.

Residents Permits will be issued to Residents within the Queens Gate development to ensure that they have a smooth experience through the security checkpoint.

Why is it in place: These measures are implemented to prevent congestion at Queensgate Roundabout during peak Airshow traffic periods. Allowing vehicles to turn right into the Queensgate Development at the filter lights would result in queues extending back towards the roundabout. If unchecked, this would quickly block traffic in all directions, causing widespread disruption across the local road network.

By relocating the turning point further along Government House Road, vehicles can turn safely away from the roundabout, keeping the junction clear and operational. This approach has been successfully used during previous Airshows and has proven effective in maintaining traffic flow and minimising disruption for residents, businesses and the wider community.

When is it in place: Monday 20 July to Friday 24 July

What is in place: The A325 Farnborough Road is subject to a Clearway during Show Week, supported by additional temporary traffic management measures to maintain traffic flow, protect pedestrian safety, and prevent congestion at key junctions.

Key measures include:

Pedestrian safety:

  • Pedestrian barriers will be installed along both sides of the A325 to provide a protected walking route, which forms the primary pedestrian link between Queens Parade and the Airshow site.
  • Manned pedestrian crossing points will be staffed by trained traffic marshals throughout operational hours.

Turning restrictions:

In accordance with the approved TTRO, right‑turn movements are prohibited both into and out of the following locations:

  • Maitland Road
  • The Aviator Hotel
  • RAE Road
  • Aircraft Esplanade

No right‑turn movements are permitted from the A325 into these roads, nor from these roads onto the A325.
Hotel and local access arrangements:

  • Vehicles accessing The Aviator Hotel must continue southbound on the A325 to Queens Roundabout, before returning northbound and making a left‑turn only into the hotel access.

Why is it in place: The A325 Farnborough Road is a critical route for general traffic, shuttle bus operations and pedestrian movements during Show Week. Without intervention, turning movements, stopping vehicles and informal pedestrian crossing would quickly lead to congestion, safety risks and network instability.

The combination of clearway enforcement, turning restrictions, central lane control and pedestrian segregation ensures that:

  • traffic continues to flow safely and predictably;
  • shuttle bus and emergency service movements are protected;
  • pedestrian routes are clearly defined and safely managed; and
  • congestion is prevented from propagating back towards Queens Roundabout and the wider strategic road network.

When is it in place: Sunday 19 July to Friday 25 July

What is in place: Traffic management measures will be implemented on the A325 Farnborough Road (southbound) to support access to Queens Parade, manage shuttle bus operations, and maintain traffic flow during peak periods.

Key measures include:

Queens Parade access and shuttle bus egress:

  • A tapered lane closure (lane 1) will be implemented on the A325 to manage entry into Queens Parade and to allow the safe and efficient egress of courtesy shuttle buses from the car park.
  • This arrangement will operate daily from 07:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs, and may be removed earlier if traffic conditions allow and will remain in place with the lane bring closed to all traffic between 20:00hrs and 07:00hrs.

Speed management:

  • A temporary 40 mph speed limit will be introduced on the A325 southbound carriageway between Queens Hotel Roundabout and Alisons Slip Road. This restriction will remain in force for the duration of the Airshow.

Why is it in place: Queens Parade is a primary external parking area and a key interface for shuttle bus operations during Show Week. The use of a tapered lane arrangement allows parking access and shuttle bus movements to operate safely without creating uncontrolled conflict with through traffic on the A325.

Together, these measures:

  • prioritise reliable shuttle bus egress;
  • manage vehicle speeds and turning movements;
  • allow Queens Parade to fill and empty efficiently; and
  • reduce congestion at Queens Hotel Roundabout and on the wider A325 corridor.

We understand how important access is for local residents and businesses.

  • Access will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable
  • You may be required to follow diversion routes or alternative approaches
  • Traffic marshals will be in place to assist where needed

Residents Permits will be issued to Residents within the Queens Gate development will receive vehicle permits that must be in use from 19 July.

During the event, temporary access controls will be in place in some areas to help keep traffic moving and ensure residents can continue to access their homes safely.

  • For residents within the Queens Gate development, permits will be issued in June with full details and guidance.
  • These permits should be clearly displayed from 19 July when travelling to and from your property.
  • The permits are in place to ensure residents can pass through controlled or restricted areas without issue.

Traffic management staff will be present at access points to assist, and plans have been designed to maintain access for residents at all times, with any delays kept to a minimum wherever possible.
